Under the direct supervision of the IDD Program Coordinator Supervisor, the service specialist provides direct care services to individuals with development disabilities to support them in reaching their maximum level of independence for daily living situations. The service specialist is required to work with individuals who may display physical, emotional, and or behavioral challenges that are a challenge to environments and people with whom they interact. The service specialist must have the ability to teach and model adaptive behaviors, fully implement training programs, assist individuals with activities of daily living, communicate effectively with individuals served and accurately document observations and services provided. All services are provided in compliance with Medicaid rules. The Service Specialist must have the ability to stay current in all center required training, work variable hours when needed to provide adequate coverage and work in variable work settings and locations (this includes day programs, nursing facilities, and individual homes). This position will support numerous programs – Waiver, GR, and PASRR and may provide services in Caldwell, Gonzales and Guadalupe Counties.
Hours and shifts vary based on center need
|Credentials||Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED. Must have current Texas driver’s license and maintain approved driver’s status throughout employment. |
Preferred Qualifications: Six (6) months full time experience in working with people with developmental disabilities. Experience working with and in nursing facilities.
