Job Description | An Occupational Therapist Assistant provides early intervention services to infants, toddlers and families so that the child will progress in the acquisition and mastery of functional skills in order to reduce or overcome limitations resulting from disabilities or developmental delays, under the direct supervision of an Occupational Therapist. The Occupation Therapist assistant is expected to report progress of caseload to supervising Occupational Therapist. The Occupational therapist provides early intervention services to infants, toddlers and families so that the child will progress in the acquisition and mastery of functional skills in order to reduce or overcome limitations resulting from disabilities or developmental delays. Essential tasks include participation as a member of an interdisciplinary team to evaluate, assess, determine eligibility, develop and carry out treatment plans, document progress and required processes, educate families and community partners, collaborate with physicians and other care providers, maintain required records, and meet requirement of the profession of Occupational Therapist. Requirements of early intervention service provision come under the authority of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and are regulated by the Texas Department of Health and Human Services. Credentials | Minimum Qualifications: Knowledge of and experience working with infants and toddlers with developmental needs. Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant: Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant Certification from an accredited program and licensed in the state of Texas. Occupational Therapist: Completion of Occupational Therapy Degree from an accredited occupational therapy program and licensed in the state of Texas. Must have valid Texas driver’s license and maintain approved driver’s status throughout employment. Preferred Qualifications: Preferably, 1+ years of experience providing occupational therapy to young children and coaching families Preferred AND required education, experience, job knowledge, skills and abilities helpful in the performance of this position, as indicated below: Comprehensive knowledge of typical and atypical development in children birth to three years old Comprehensive knowledge of childhood conditions that relate to the provision of occupational therapy services: sensory processing impairments, autism, feeding difficulties, motor delays and dysfunction, and other conditions Comprehensive knowledge of and understanding of team and family dynamics. Ability to contribute as a leader and facilitator on teams which include parents, caregivers, and other professional staff. Ability to perform under minimal supervision with considerable requirements for initiative, discretion, independent thought, judgment and self-motivation in matters of significance to families as well as the agency. Well-developed interpersonal skills, oral and written communication skills, time management/organization skills, and basic computer skills. Ability to independently conduct discussions and formulate recommendations which commit the agency financially Ability to comprehend and adhere to family-centered, activity-based early intervention practices. Ability to work sensitively with families from a variety of cultural orientations. |
