Job Description

In the Substance Use Disorder department, we strive to work with you and provide opportunities for growth in working with a diverse population. As a Prevention Specialist, you will play a crucial role in implementing our research-based curriculum designed for youth and families, ensuring that participants receive the support they need to thrive.

Under the supervision of the Director of Substance Use Services, Assistant Director of Substance Use Services and the Prevention Coordinator, the Prevention Specialist will:

  • Plan, coordinate and implement prevention curriculum and wellness activities in Williamson and Burnet Co schools and community.
  • Advocate for policies and laws focused in reducing access to alcohol and other substances and promote healthy lifestyle for youth and families.
  • In this role, you will facilitate and co-facilitate group, individual, and family sessions, as well as public education presentations.
  • Complete Tobacco Compliance Checks within the community monthly.
  • Support stigma reduction of mental health and substance use disorders.
  • Work in collaboration with community partners to increase health promotion and improve behavioral health.
  • Maintain timely and accurate documentation and reports, and attend meetings and training as required.
  • Provide resources and referrals to the most appropriate level of care or services.
  • Work collaboratively with the Prevention Coordinator and Prevention Specialist to plan and provide guidance on all prevention activities and issues.
  • Willingness to drive to various locations within Williamson County and Burnet Co as a part of job duties and responsibilities.
  • Ability to demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills with youth, team members, parents, and community
  • Ability to be flexible; problem solver, self-directed; customer service-oriented, and collaborative

This position typically works during regular hours, Monday to Friday, from 8 am to 5 pm. Due to community events taking place in the evenings there will also be a rotating schedule for the team to provide coverage and hours during the week. This position should not exceed 40 hours per week.

Location: Burnet County

Hourly Salary Range: $26.60 – $35.35

Differential Detail:

  • $1.00 – Certified Prevention Specialist
  • $1.00 – Master’s Degree
  • $1.00 – PhD/Doctoral Degree
  • $1.00 – 1 year Prevention Experience
  • $0.75 – Bilingual
  • Up to $4.00 – Tenure with BTCS

CredentialsMinimum Qualifications:
Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License and maintain approved driver’s status throughout employment.
Ability to be credentialed as an Associated Prevention Specialist (APS) OR Certified Prevention Specialist (CPS) within 20 months of employment.
Associate’s degree in education, social work/psychology/sociology, human services or related field, child/family development, and public health.
Minimum 1 year of experience working with youth and/or families.
Proficiency in MS Office system


Preferred Qualifications:
Certified as a Prevention Specialist
Bilingual
Minimum 1 year of experience working with youth and/or families.
Experience with public speaking
