(1040) Licensed Professional Counselor

Job Description

This position provides mental health (counseling) services to infants, toddlers and families so that the child will progress in the acquisition and mastery of functional skills in order to reduce or overcome limitations resulting from disabilities or developmental delays.  Requirements of Early Intervention service provision come under the authority of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and are regulated by the Texas Department of Health and Human Services.

Essential tasks include participation as a member of an interdisciplinary team to evaluate, assess, determine eligibility, develop and carry out treatment plans, document progress and required processes, educate families and community partners, collaborate with physicians and other care providers, maintain required records and meet requirement of the profession of Licensed Professional Counselor.  If also acting as service coordinator, will oversee and coordinate the family’s access to therapeutic intervention, community services, education, resources, and support the family’s understanding of rights and advocacy.

All interactions with families and children use Trauma Informed Care principles.  The Coaching Model is used to provide services.  The Coaching Model provides strategies and interventions, educational information, material, and emotional support to families while allowing families to have a voice and choice in the services.  Parent choice and voice allows the parents to engage their child so the child can learn throughout the day in a variety of typical activities, and to support the attachment between the child and parent or primary caregiver.  Services are provided in the setting where the child lives, learns, and plays.
