(1833) Director of Outpatient Nursing Services (DON)

Job Description

Under the clinical leadership of the Chief Medical Officer and as a member of the Executive Management Team (EMT), the Director of Outpatient Nursing Services (DON) will provide clinical supervision, education, direction, and oversight to Registered Nurses (RNs), Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVNs) and Certified Medical Assistants (CMAs) within all BTCS outpatient programs. The BTCS outpatient programs include adult and child mental health clinics, primary care clinics, outpatient crisis services, and ambulatory programs that serve individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities and substance use disorders.

This position will coordinate and monitor the delivery of clinical and nursing behavioral health, crisis, and developmental disabilities services in these outpatient settings. The DON will ensure the care and treatment of individuals in accordance with accepted professional, legal and ethical nursing standards are being met by the nursing team. The DON, in cooperation with the Program Directors, will assure nursing services are completed in alignment with Bluebonnet Trails Community Services (BTCS) procedures; are person centered; are conducted in the best interest of the person and community; and are properly coordinated with the treating physicians and other prescribing professionals.

The DON is responsible for oversight of infection control processes, internal and external reviews (audits) of outpatient nursing and medical programs as assigned by the Chief Medical Officer for the purposes of quality measurement and improvement. The DON is an active participant in clinical and administrative teams supporting quality improvement by enhancing practice and establishing procedures supporting successful implementation of innovative practices and practical approaches to supporting successful accreditation of the system of care.

The DON is responsible for adhering to all agency policies and procedures. The DON will work with other healthcare agencies, including local and state hospitals as well as other state and local agencies as necessary to ensure nursing services are provided timely and in the most clinically appropriate setting.

The DON will work within a multi-disciplinary team, possess the leadership ability to educate, train, lead and support all nursing team staff. The DON will exhibit excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing. The DON will possess positive leadership, communication, problem solving and team building skills. The DON will work closely with unit program directors in the efficient and effective operation of the outpatient programs.

The DON will coordinate, consult with, and align nursing operations with the Director of Residential Nursing and residential services. Routine interactions and collaboration will occur to ensure a consistent nursing model for the entire agency, including joint meetings with the Chief Medical Officer.

Up to $2.00/hr Previous experience in a similar role with a community center in Texas

$1.00/hr tenure with BTCS

CredentialsMinimum Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Texas or hold an unencumbered Multi-State nursing license; demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and be part of a multidisciplinary professional team; demonstrated computer literacy with working knowledge of Windows/MS Office/TEAMS/Outlook 365 applications; excellent written and oral communication skills, experience in behavioral healthcare setting; must have a valid driver’s license and maintain approved driver’s status throughout employment.

Preferred Qualifications: Bilingual in Spanish or ASL; one year of administrative nursing experience in Behavioral Health related field, and/or five cumulative years of nursing experience in multiple areas of Behavioral Health, Developmental Disabilities, Primary Care, Medical Surgical, Substance Use, Withdrawal Management and/or Crisis Services.
