Job Description

Program Overview:

MCOT services are community-based and available 24 hours per day, every day of the year. The Crisis Clinician utilizes the most effective, least restrictive approaches and evidenced-based interventions until the crisis is resolved or the individual is transitioned into a more clinically appropriate environment.

Our Vision is Healthy and Fulfilled Lives, and MCOT provides expedited access to care in critical situations, as an essential  mobile provider of crisis services for children, adolescents, and adults experiencing a behavioral health crisis. The MCOT case manager dispatches to the location of the individual experiencing a behavioral health crisis, including schools, emergency rooms, homes, and BTCS clinics, to provide crisis intervention, screening, referral, relapse prevention, and follow-up services.

Our Mission is to continuously improve the health and independence of the person we serve, and in addition to ready access to care in the time of crisis, MCOT also provides follow-up services which may include case management, individual and group skills training, Person-Centered Recovery Planning, supported housing/employment, discharge planning and linkage to ongoing services.

Critical Impact:

Within the crisis continuum, the MCOT Crisis Clinician responds when called upon to support emergent and urgent crisis needs. Leveraging skills in de-escalation and safety planning, MCOT works collaboratively with the individual in crisis to assess the need and develop a plan for next steps. As a crisis response team, MCOT collaborates with law enforcement, the medical community, schools, families, and social service agencies, demonstrating strong knowledge of the principles, methods, techniques, and practices of working with individuals experiencing a mental health, substance use, and/or developmental crisis.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provides empathetic active listening and de-escalation
  • Engages in person-centered safety planning, utilizing critical thinking and solution-focused problem solving
  • Ensures crisis follow-up and relapse prevention occurs, providing support once the crisis has resolved
  • Communicates effectively with people and families from diverse cultures and socio-economic backgrounds
  • Facilities and coordinates placement
  • Partners with families, first responders, schools, hospitals, and community agencies
  • Demonstrates skills and expertise using integrated computer database programs to access files and document services as well as the ability to organize and prioritize work assignments.
  • ability to work independently, collaboratively within a Team and assumes a flexible work schedule.
  • Assumes rotating on-call responsibilities, including after-hours, weekends, and holidays. A daily stipend is offered for each day of on-call
  • Cross-trains to support crisis programs, including Diversion Center, Adult Crisis Respite, Youth Therapeutic Respite, and 911 Dispatch

Location: Guadalupe, Gonzales and Caldwell Counties

Salary: $24.23 – $36.98/hr

Applicable Differentials:

Up to $3.50/hour – Previous crisis experience

Up to $2.00/hour- Previous experience in similar role with a community center in Texas

Up to $4.00/hour – Tenure with BTCS

$.75/hour – Bilingual

$1.00/hour – Masters Degree in Human Services

$1.00/hour – Advanced Licensure

$.50/hour – LCDC Licensure

Plus Shift Differentials

Shift Differentials:

$2.00/hour – Evening

$4.00/hour – Night

$4.00/hour – Weekend

$6.00/hour – Weekend Night

$30/day – On Call

CredentialsMinimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Human Services*, comprehensive knowledge of mental health diagnoses, ability to work independently and collaboratively within a fast-paced, recovery-focused environment.
Minimum of two years of case management experience
Possesses a valid Texas Driver's License and maintains approved drivers’ status throughout employment.
*If degree is not in Human Services, a minimum of 24 credits in a human services field.

Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in Human Services
Pursuit of clinical licensure in counseling, behavior analysis, family therapy, social work or a related field
Advanced licensure
Bilingual in ASL or Spanish
Experience in providing concurrent documentation
Licensure as a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC)
