(2984) IDD Crisis Intervention Specialist / Seguin CRU

Job Description

Under the direct supervision of the Director of Intellectual Developmental Disabilities (IDD) Crisis Services or designee, the Crisis Intervention Specialist (CIS) is a member of the IDD Crisis Team and the Southern Hub Crisis Team, providing integrated crisis services in-person and via televideo in Guadalupe, Caldwell, and Gonzales Counties. This position is part of an integrated crisis team, is credentialed as a Qualified Intellectual Disabilities Professional (QIDP) and a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP). As such, the position is dually supervised by the Seguin CRU Program Manager.

The clinician provides information to individuals with IDD, their families/caregivers and providers about available IDD programs and services and assists with linkage to outpatient services.  Ongoing case management services, including behavior strategies and parent training where appropriate, will be provided to a caseload of individuals with diagnoses of IDD/Autism who are experiencing crisis symptoms. There is daily opportunity to collaborate with interdisciplinary team members within internal BTCS programs and external Medicaid providers to identify and support individuals with IDD who are at risk of, or experiencing crisis. This clinicians carries an ongoing caseload of individuals in need of IDD crisis services. For individuals with IDD referred to crisis facilities, such as Diversion Center, Crisis Respite Unit, and Youth Therapeutic Respite Program, the CIS develops a crisis service plan describing the needed therapeutic support, and works with the service coordinator and the service planning team to ensure that on-going crisis follow-up and monitoring address identified concerns and issues.

This position collaboratively partners with law enforcement, the medical community/emergency room staff, schools, families, Medicaid providers and social service agencies to assist persons in crisis. The CIS possesses strong knowledge of the principles, methods, techniques, and practices of working with individuals experiencing a mental health, substance use, and an intellectual or developmental disability related crisis, and must have the ability to communicate effectively with persons and families from diverse cultures and socio-economic backgrounds. The CIS must have skills and experience using integrated computer database programs to access files and document services, as well as the ability to organize and prioritize work assignments. This position requires a flexible work schedule and the ability to work independently, yet collaboratively.

Location: Caldwell, Guadalupe, and Gonzales Counties

Hourly Salary Range: $24.23 – $36.98

Differential Detail:

  • Up to $3.50/hour – Previous crisis experience
  • Up to $2.00/hour- Previous experience in similar role with a community center in Texas
  • Up to $4.00/hour – Tenure with BTCS
  • $.75/hour – Bilingual
  • $1.00/hour – Masters Degree in Human Services
  • $1.00/hour – Advanced Licensure
  • $.50/hour – LCDC Licensure
  • Plus Shift Differentials
  • Eligibility for $200/month Service Delivery Incentive Award

CredentialsMinimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in a human services field; comprehensive knowledge of mental health diagnoses. Ability to work as a member of a team within a fast-paced, recovery-focused environment is essential to this position.

Minimum of two years case management experience required. Must have skills and experience using integrated computer database programs to access files and document services, as well as the ability to organize and prioritize work assignments. Must have a valid Texas Driver's License.

*If degree is not in a human services field, a minimum of 24 college credits in a human services field are required.


Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree; pursuing clinical licensure in counseling, social work or a related field.
Bilingual in ASL or Spanish preferred; experience in providing concurrent documentation preferred.
Licensure as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst.
