Job Description | The Direct Support Professional (DSP) delivers comprehensive care services to individuals in the PASRR program with developmental disabilities, supporting them in achieving their highest level of independence in daily living activities. The DSP is responsible for working with individuals who may exhibit physical, emotional, or behavioral challenges that impact their interactions with their environment and others. Key responsibilities include teaching and modeling adaptive behaviors, fully implementing individualized training programs, assisting with activities of daily living, effectively communicating with individuals served, and accurately documenting observations and services provided. DSP’s will help ensure individuals have access to all necessary resources and support. All services must comply with HHSC state guidelines and the performance contract. The DSP is expected to stay current with all required training, maintain the flexibility to work variable hours to ensure adequate coverage, and adapt to working in diverse settings and counties as needed. Service delivery may occur in various environments, including nursing facilities or other designated community locations. Credentials | Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED. Must have and maintain current driver’s license and driving record and maintain approved driver’s status throughout employment. Must be able to pass and maintain background checks. Preferred Qualifications: Previous lived or paid experience as a direct support staff. Previous paid experience provided support to individuals with cognitive or physical impairments. Bachelor’s degree in a health or other human services field. Bilingual in Spanish or ASL. |
