Job Description

The  Consumer Benefits Specialist provides consumers with assistance in determining eligibility for, access to and maintenance of Medicaid benefits & entitlements and meets  with consumers to aid assistance with SSI/SSDI program application process and follow-up, to include referrals to vendors for assistance with benefits, initial applications, administrative law judge hearings, claims, and appeals.

The Consumer Benefits Specialist also provides community referrals, and representation during administrative law judge hearings in a court setting and meets with consumers to provide benefit renewal assistance with the application process and maintenance of eligibility for Medicaid programs such as QMB, ,MQMB and various Medicaid waivers. Make necessary social service referrals within the community based on consumer needs such as food stamps, Tand ANF, Medicare prescription extra help applications. Serve as presenter and/or designee on trainings across programs and departments.

The consumer benefits specialist  will serve in a regional capacity supporting multiple locations that will include Bastrop, Fayette, and Lee and work closely with referral vendors as primary referral contact.

Location: LaGrange, TX

Hourly Salary Range: $21.46 – $26.21

Differential Detail: 

  • $1.00/hour – Tenure with BTCS
  • Up to $2.00/hour – Prior Community Center Experience
  • $1.00/hour – Career Ladder Specialty
  • .75/hour – Bilingual

CredentialsMinimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Human Services field. *If degree is not in Human Services, a minimum of 24 credits in a human services field. Knowledge of Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security applications. Experience working with persons with disabilities in a healthcare or rehab setting. Strong computer and communication skills. Ability to work as a member of a team to support the overall benefits needs of persons served.

Candidate should have SOAR certification or willing to obtain within the first 6 months.

Must have a valid Texas driver’s license and maintain approved driver’s status throughout employment.


Preferred Qualifications:
Minimum plus SOAR Certified, Texas Community Partner Application and Case Assistance Certificates.
Salary Amount$44,636.80 - $54,516.80/year
