(1856) Bilingual Parent Educator

Job Description

The Parent Educator is responsible for providing services directly to families prenatally until their child enters Kindergarten or turns 6 years old (whichever occurs first). This position will:

  • Conduct home visits to provide parent/caregiver instruction and coaching in appropriate educational/child-development activities.  A minimum of 75% of all required services must be delivered in person.
  • Coach parents/caregivers to increase positive parenting and family well-being strategies as outlined in evidence-based curriculum (as required by Parents as Teachers).
  • Connect families with additional resources and services within the agency and community.
  • Conduct child health and developmental screenings, as well as parent/caregiver screenings, and refer to additional services as needed based on screening results.
  • Plan and conduct parent group connection meetings to focus on child development, parenting skills, and resource information.
  • Collect and enter data in the Parents as Teachers (PAT) database and state database to meet timelines and requirements of Parents as Teachers National Center (PATNC) and program funders.
  • Collaborate with program staff and community partners to conduct outreach, host community and family events, and engage in program quality improvement activities.

 

All interactions with families and children use Trauma Informed Care principles and allow for parent choice and voice, allowing parents to engage their child so the child learns throughout the day in a variety of typical activities, and to support the attachment between the child and parent or primary caregiver.

Location: Bastrop, TX

Hourly Salary Range: $19.47 – $25.22

Differential Detail:

  • $1.00 per hour – 2 years previous experience
  • Up to $4.00 per hour – BTCS Tenure
  • $0.75 per hour – Bilingual

CredentialsMinimum Qualifications:
A high school diploma.
At least 3 years’ experience working with families with young children (0-5 years old).
Bilingual in English and Spanish.
Basic knowledge of child development and parental impact on child development.
Well-developed interpersonal skills, time management/organization skills, and basic computer skills.
Ability to work sensitively with families from a variety of cultural orientations.
Must have valid Texas driver’s license and maintain approved driving status throughout employment.

Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, child development, psychology, social work, health, or a related field.
